The bantering and nevertheless tragic fairy-tale for the adults is yet another proof of Igor Stravinsky’s creative imagination. The first performance in 1918 shocked the public: the genre was extravagant, the style – out of the ordinary.
But the very idea based on the dark Faustian fable is still pending and even more alive today. Is freedom an illusion or a responsibility? And the real temptation – is it something alien outside or something too familiar inside all of us? It is a soldier of today who is whistling simple-heartedly and waltzing along the rhythms of tango and jazz.
